This Week: New Highway 101 Off-Ramp, Freeway Closures

Drivers exiting on the new off-ramp will only be able to turn right until a bridge is built.

This week, a new Highway 101 off-ramp will make its debut at Airport Boulevard, and Caltrans will close the entire freeway to begin construction of a new overpass.

The new off-ramp, at the southbound Airport Boulevard exit, is scheduled to open Monday night. Drivers who exit there will only be able to turn right (west) until a new bridge is built next year, Caltrans said in a press release.

Later in the week, the entire freeway will be closed overnight to install "falsework"–the temporary support structure that will be used during construction of the new bridge.

Southbound Highway 101 at Airport Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Northbound Highway 101 at Airport Boulevard will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday night and Saturday night, Caltrans said.

This work could be delayed if weather turns sour, Caltrans said.
