More Farm Flavor at Healdsburg Barn Dance in Alexander Valley

The resurrected Healdsburg Barn Dance holds its third rootin’ tootin’ good time for a good cause tonight, this time at the Alexander Valley Community Center, starting at 6:00 and running till 10 p.m.

There will be live music by Whiskey & Honey, beer from Ruth McGowan's, wine from both Truett Hurst and Rodney Strong, plus barbecue and other food, line dancing and good times.

The roots of the Healdsburg Barn Dance are, like many things in Healdsburg, surprisingly traditional. Back in the 1940s, the Healdsburg 20-30 Club introduced the original barn dance as a fundraiser for Rheumatic Fever, and held it at the old American Legion Hall (where CVS Pharmacy now stands).

The present-day Active 20-30 club revived the tradition three years ago, but the FFA also hold their own Barn Dance yearly, as they did last April at Soda Rock Winery.

To further confuse things, the 20-30 raises funds for the Healdsburg High School Ag Department, which has obvious overlap with the FFA.

But whatever Barn you do your Dance in, it’ll be fun.  Barn dances are a part of the history of the West, a chance for people from distant rural homesteads to get together for dancing and maybe even romancing.

Tickets can be purchased through the Active 20-30 site www.healdsburg2030.com for $25.00, or $30.00 at the door.
