A diver must always know how to release his/her weight belt. Seems intuitive, but I never put on my…Read More weight belt without checking the buckle and thinking of the release process in case I get into trouble. Also, when being jostled about while diving, there is a tendency for the weight belt to move from the front of the body to the side. Thus, I reconfigure the belt as needed so the buckle is accessible.

Here's my two cents worth: It's completely impossible to know what went wrong so maybe we should…Read More wait and let the facts dictate a response before we assign blame. One thing all of us can learn from this is to get a small fire extinguisher, learn how to use it and keep it handy in case of a car fire. How many of you commenting have done just that?
The other thing that we can do is to require that all drivers of commercial vehicles have training in response to emergencies such as this, and require that there be a means by which drivers and passengers of commercial vehicles can communicate effectively.
Everyone likes to think that they would "do the right thing" in an emergency like this. But without training, none of us really knows. As emergency personnel will tell you, if you've been trained adequately to respond to an emergency, your training takes over and kicks in. You don't have to "think" per se.
May God bless those who died and bless their family and friends. I'll remember them in my prayers.

Maureen, no apology, I stand by my comments.
The driver pulled over so passengers could get out. He…Read More did not go into the car and help anyone. Nurse Arrellano opened the back door. She did not go into the car and help anyone. They both did something, yet in public opinion neither did enough.
