Thanks Zach - I received another note clarifying it was not the Terrible Two, and also pointing out…Read More it wasn't "a race," which I guess is sort of true. I'll added correction to the story.

The ride was the Wine Country Century, not the Terrible Two which is in June. I'm not sure which…Read More version the rider who collapsed was doing. I was doing the 200 km (124 mile) route but 100 mile riders were also riding this stretch of West Dry Creek Rd. at this time. Not sure about the 100 km route. This is now the third time I've been on a century type ride where a rider has a fatal heart attack.

This is a true bummer! However, I feel like if the participant fees were increased I would not have…Read More paid it. As it was I paid for two tickets at $295 each, plus the fees from active.com. That is more than I have paid for any event athletic or not. Paying more would have made it completely unreasonable.

Zoe --agreed that this note raises many questions. As soon as the spokesperson for the event…Read More responds to our inquiry we will update this story.

" We have thus determined that the risks of continuing now clearly outweigh any estimated…Read More rewards. " This is the sentence that confuses me - as there is talk about funds and perhaps disturbances to neighbors, it seems that as a business enterprise / fundraiser / perhaps to meet increased costs, the answer lies in increasing the participation fees. So, is some of the "risk" related to extra patrols, extra insurance, etc? It would be nice to know the details and not just the word "risk" .....

People that ride bikes also drive cars right? It seems the rules dont apply to some, or maybe they…Read More are forgetful. So, I'll reserve the right to lay on my horn whenever a Peleton taking up the entire lane (my right as a driver). Single file riding is uncommon amongst large groups of "leisure riders", and I agree we should have some sort of training for bike permits before one of these uneducated cyclists kills or injures someone. As for now, "share the road" is just another oxymoron.

How about cyclists required to have licenses like cars so that when a cyclist carooms catty corner…Read More at a 4 way stop and I am turning right and I almost hit the guy , I can report him. I believe cyclists should bear some responsibility for their behavior on the road. And all the rest of it, taking up a whole lane, stopping in the middle of the road,
etc. I do not dislike cyclers so let's not put all the blame on drivers.

All great memeories by everyone thus far. My family is in it's 64th consecutive year aa a season…Read More tix holder and we were fortunate to have attended three. In New Orleans in 1990 the restaurants were so crowded, you had to share tables and we were lucky to sit with Denver fans the day before for lunch and dinner. All they could say was how everybody in Denver knew they were going to lose and that they were just happy to be there. Final score: 55-10.

Yea, I think the Patch is beginning to be desperate for traffic with a headline like this with the…Read More big SF logo and all. Sorry I included myself in the " hits" traffic. Time to go and read the real sport sections and all. I do enjoy Carlos from Patch though, maybe he could be polished into a regular sports columist w/out all the off subject hatin.
